mixedupdays:

“Someone else’s behavior is never an excuse for your own” stays up in my classroom all year. I use it in a lesson in early September on the concept of personal responsibility. Thereafter, at any cry of “he told me to do it” or “she did it first”, I will bring the entire class to a halt so we can reread this phrase and I can reinforce the concept of “YOU are in charge of YOU”. I think it’s been very successful, and at the very least my students learn very quickly that blaming others for their actions doesn’t fly with me, and they quit trying it!

This is such a simple idea I found online, but it is helping me SO MUCH with keeping organized this school year! I’m constantly making lists of what to do, this helps me.

Papers have been piling up on my desk at school, I need to reorganize that this week.

I may create another one of things to do at home….. Because it is SO HELPFUL.

This is smart and doesn’t waste tons of paper!

There are always those students that touch your heart and without even realizing it become one of your favorites. One of my “babies” that I taught in 6th grade and the beginning of 7th grade this year transferred to another school a few months ago. I can still remember signing his drop slip with the tears streaming down my face. Fortunately he is now in one of my good friend’s classes at his new school. Today he had my friend tape a video message to me and his old classmates letting us know how much he missed us and that he hoped we were all having fun. Again, I was watching the video with tears flowing. It’s moments like this that remind me why I put up with the hassle, paperwork, and stress and decide to become a teacher.

I am showing this to my students tomorrow.
